About YoungSong
YoungSong was founded in 1999. At its inception, there was one teacher servicing three preschools. Now, nine years later, YoungSong consists of a team of five teachers servicing over 50 schools and organizations. We have expanded beyond the classroom to include entertainment at birthday parties and corporate events.
Our staff consists of teachers who not only have music experience but also have experience working with preschoolers as daily classroom teachers. All teachers have completed CORI and SORI reports on file in our Cumberland office.
YoungSong is currently a member of Children's Music Network, Music Educator's National Conference, People to People Ambassador Programs, National Association for the Education of Young Children, and Early Childhood Music and Movement Association.
About The Owner
Christine Porter, owner of YoungSong, moved to the Massachusetts area in 1996. She worked part-time as a secretary and spent her evenings performing in Boston area theaters. She spent her first summer in Boston at Fessenden Day Camp, where she was the music specialist for kids ages 4-12.
During that summer, she grew to love teaching and by the end of that year had started a position as a classroom teacher at the Beacon Hill Nursery School. She spent the next two years there as well as four summers at Fessenden. She also spent six months on an international tour with Missoula Children's Theater, leading workshops for school children and directing them in a full length children's musical.
During these years, Christine came to realize that there was a definite need for music in the preschool classroom. So in 1999, she started YoungSong — a company that serves as a solution to music needs in the preschool classroom.
Besides teaching, Christine continues to be heavily involved in the early childhood scene. She attends and leads workshops in several early childhood conferences. In 2001, she was sent to Cuba as part of an international educational exchange through President Eisenhower's People to People Ambassador Program. She has also served on the steering committee of the New England Kindergarten Conference and wrote and performed a play commemorating the 40th anniversary of the conference.
